Capeks Cycles

Capek’s circles

  • Are a restructured version of well known experiential learning cycle (e.g. Kolb 1984)
  • Capek’s circles describe processes occurring during repeated feedback; purpose of feedback is to transfer newly learned knowledge into new activities or into practical life
  • Circles were created according to experiences of Adventura Teambuilding with trainings taking into account various targets of clients
  • Circles reflect desirable level of feedback used in different types of programmes.

Capek’s circle I.
It is used in teambuilding. Level of work with experience is key component of development. Participants should be able to transfer particular knowledge into practical life very well.

  • Activity focused on given subject.
  • Sharing: space for emotional hindsight after activity
  • Description: recapitulation of activity based on facts
  • Labelling: realizing the way the group was working during activity and searching for most important points for further analyse
  • Understanding: evaluation of activity and labelled points in context with general principles and theoretical knowledge
  • Planning: definition of plan of changes, which is created in cooperation of participants and lecturer
  • Transfer: testing plan in another activities. Evaluating it’s effectiveness in next feedback circle and possibilities of further use in practice.

Capek’s circle II.
Used in teamspirit trainings. Because level of work with experience is middle or low (depends on exact definition of targets by customer), also approach to this process is different. Level of generalization is not placed in abstract and figurative level, but works with concrete situation.

  • Activity focused on given subject.
  • Sharing: space for emotional hindsight after activity
  • Description: recapitulation of activity based on facts and labelling of group level within area of chosen key competence
  • Planning: definition of plan of changes within area of chosen key competence
  • Transfer: testing of plan in following activities

Capek’s circle III.
Used in teamspirit and fun trainings. We recommend the space for sharing to be preserved in every program. It eases the accession into desired communication with other participants, supports informal relationships creation and at the same time deepens its effect.
Space for sharing is not created artificially after every activity but naturally follows bigger program blocs.

  • Activity, shared experience
  • Sharing, space for emotional hindsight after experience
